Overview of audience
The board members always need to have special reports and information. Usually they are given these reports once or a few times a year for the regularly scheduled board meetings. But the board, to properly monitor the heartbeat of the mission, can often benefit from having summary data or overview reports. Some people have described it as a "dashboard" that has the speed, gas-gauge, and any warning-lights that are on. Having an up-to-date top-level view like this can be very helpful to the board as they serve the organization.

Infrastructure
Usually the board getting these reports will happen after the donor "portal" has been created. From there, it is usually more a matter of building reports than infrastructure to get the information needed for the board.

What causes a mission to move on to the next audience
The next audience, Other Offices or missions is usually something that organizations can do when they are stable enough to develop outside partnerships, and their internal data infrastructure is sufficiently complex enough and complete enough that they feel they do not need to only focus on their own needs.

Report Writing
Most of the infrastructure needed here has already been put in place during the donor stage. The main thing needed is some re-vamping to develop the reports that the board needs. The choice of software made during the stage when the IT staff are trying to get the Donor portal will play a huge role in whether or not they can develop a board-level interface.
