MissionTechWiki:Community Portal
From MissionTechWiki
The International Conference on Computers & Missions (ICCM) is the main component of our community consisting of IT workers in missions. We have a number of email lists on http://www.yahoogroups.com.
If you are a Christian in the IT industry, have you visited the International Christian Technologists' Association site?
Why do we have a Wiki?
Well, it turns out that wikis are quite a good way of gathering and managing knowledge. The purpose of this wiki is two fold:
- To capture and share knowledge about the use of technology of missions in the missions community.
- To share knowledge about the use of technology in missions with the Christian IT community.
Missions can have a reasonably high turnover of workers. This appears to apply especially to the case with technology workers. A lot of groups have young folk working for them straight out of uni. Sometimes they don't stay long (perhaps only there for 6 months to a year on a short term assignment). So this wiki will hopefully capture some of the knowledge about the generalities of Mission Technology and avoid everyone re-inventing the wheel.
Why do we have awards?
Studies have found that most people will only contribute knowledge to a project like this if they receive some discernible benefit. Some will contribute just because they see it as a good thing to do, but most need a little bit more of a nudge. So that is what the award is. Something that will encourage people to get involved! It is also a nice way to bless folk who have contributed something worthwhile.
